Tax on bike owners makes no sense
My fellow St. Charles resident Doug Eden in a letter to the editor suggested that bicyclists have some "skin in the game" -- pay a tax to ride on the streets.
As a bicyclist myself, I happen to also own two cars and a home. Is he not aware that I already pay my share of taxes to maintain our roads ... and perhaps add bicycle lanes? As much as possible, I avoid riding on streets and often wonder why so many bicyclists choose to ride on our local roads when there are bike paths that nearly parallel these roads.
Nonetheless, adding a tax or other fee for bike owners makes no sense whatsoever.
