Daily Herald report
The 21-year-old Geneva man charged with drunken driving in a July 19 crash in Naperville that killed two passengers pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and aggravated driving under the influence of drugs.
Michael Szot's next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 2 in DuPage County courtroom 4014.
According to officials, Szot had a blood alcohol concentration of .142 early on July 19 after his car plunged into a water-filled Naperville quarry. Authorities said Szot also admitted smoking marijuana earlier in the day and had a marijuana pipe at the time of the crash.
Szot escaped the car when it sunk in the quarry that's normally used for park district paddleboats, but his passengers, Mihirtej Boddupalli, 21, of Lisle, and Sajaad Safiullah Syed, 21, of Naperville, died.
