Skunks have not been an issue year in Vernon Hills, according to Police Chief Mark Fleischhauer. Last year, about 100 calls regarding skunks were received and the village and Vernon Hills Park District hired a professional trapper to address the problem in public areas. "We have not had to resort to using his services, which is a good thing," Fleischhauer told village trustees on Tuesday. This year there have been seven skunk-related calls but no complaints, he said. Fleischhauer said he was told by the trapper that the harsh winter contributed to the reduction. Information regarding skunks is posted at www.vernonhills.org.
