Aurora police seek leads in fatal weekend shooting

Aurora police continue to ask for the public's help as authorities investigate a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning.

Nathan Gonzalez, 20, of Aurora was killed in the shooting, which police believe was gang-related.

On Sunday, city officials said investigators are pursuing leads in the case, but identification of possible offenders has been difficult.

"We're asking that if anyone in the public has any information, please come forward and talk to us," police department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

Aurora police were called to the 700 block of Superior Street shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday. They discovered Gonzalez in his car. He had been shot in the head, and he was declared dead at the scene.

Also in the car was Gonzalez's girlfriend, who had been shot in the knee and hand. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Police are asking anyone with information on the shootings to call investigators at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.
