A memorial for a journalist and author with roots in Lake County was held Thursday at the Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville. James D. Frederick, 42, died July 31 in Oakland. Frederick lived in California but grew up in Libertyville. He worked for Time Inc. for much of his career, including serving as the editor of Time International. A funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple Ave., Libertyville.
