Father, son plead innocent in beating death
A father and his 15-year-old son have pleaded innocent to first-degree murder charges in the beating death of a Romeoville man.
Mark Ballard and his 15-year-old son, Adam, are accused in the death of 55-year-old Richard Pollack, who beaten early Sunday during a fight near his home. The father and son are accused of striking Pollack in the head with a bat.
Romeoville police say several other people may have been involved in the attack. Pollack was pronounced dead at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.
The 42-year-old Ballard of Romeoville is being held in lieu of $5 million bail. Bail of $1 million was set for his son.
Defense attorney Paul Napolski said Tuesday the event that led to Pollack's death was a tragedy but is still under investigation.
