Countryside Fire District hosts storytelling evening

Countryside Fire Protection District hosted the Cook Memorial Public Library Storytelling evening Aug. 7 in front of the firehouse in Vernon Hills. About 120 adults and children from the library district attended to listen to fireman Tony Rodkey read children's books about firefighters.

"This was the second year we hosted and had another incredible showing," Rodkey said.

In addition to reading for the children, Rodkey stresses the importance of working smoke alarms, fire escape plans and watching what you heat.

Sue McGowin of the Cook Memorial Library District added, "The children and adults learn important fire safety tips and learn hands-on about firefighters following the storytelling as we talked with the duty crew and toured the fire trucks."
