Police: Wisconsin man found lying in road dies

ELLSWORTH, Wis. -- Police in western Wisconsin say a 20-year-old man has died after being thrown from a car driven by someone suspected to be intoxicated.

KARE-TV reports Ellsworth Police say Nicholas Rhiel died from injuries Sunday after being found unconscious on a residential road early Saturday. He was flown to Regions Hospital with severe injuries.

Police Chief Eric Ladwig says officers determined Rhiel had been thrown from a car. They located and arrested a driver, who is awaiting charges at Pierce County Jail.

Rhiel's father says he was pursuing a college degree in criminal justice.

Ladwig says the case is under investigation.
