Adult, juvenile charged in beating death

An adult and a 15-year-old have been charged with beating to death a Romeoville man with baseball bats.

Bond was set Monday at $5 million for 42-year-old Mark Ballard of Romeoville, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Richard Pollack. A bond of $1 million was set for the juvenile, also charged with first-degree murder.

Police say the 55-year-old Pollack was beaten to death Sunday after confronting a group of teens he thought stole his son's skateboard several days earlier.

Romeoville Police Cmdr. Ken Kroll says several other people may have been involved in the attack. The Will County coroner's office said Pollack was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It wasn't immediately known if Ballard or the juvenile have legal representation.
