Veterans mental health summit planned for Chicago

Veterans groups, elected officials and others will gather for a summit in Chicago on veterans' mental health.

According to a news release from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the event will take place Wednesday at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago.

U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth will be the keynote speaker. A Democrat from suburban Chicago, Duckworth is a veteran who lost both legs and partial use of an arm when a rocket-propelled grenade hit the Black Hawk helicopter she was piloting in Iraq in 2004.

The summit will begin with an overview of mental health issues facing veterans and then will feature discussions of smaller groups in an effort to develop strategies to address the needs of veterans.
