The Northbrook Theatre Children's Company (NTCC) will hold auditions in September for the high-flying musical adventure "Tarzan." Auditions are scheduled for the following dates:
o Sunday, September 7 from 1-5pm
o Monday, September 8 from 5:30-7:30pm
o Tuesday, September 9 from 5:30-7:30pm
Auditions are open to boys and girls in grades 6-10 and include acting, dancing and singing. The tryouts take place at the Northbrook Theatre, 3323 Walters Avenue.
The jungle comes to life in "Tarzan," which follows the adventures of a boy who washed up on the shore of West Africa and was raised by a group of gorillas. The musical is based on the popular Disney film and beloved story by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
For more than 30 years, the award-winning Northbrook Theatre Children's Company (NTCC) has presented theatre by youth for youth. The entertaining productions, produced by the Northbrook Park District, help young actors develop teamwork and communication skills, along with a love of the theatre.
Auditions are on a first-come, first-served basis, and students will be seen in groups of 10 in the order in which they arrive. They need to bring 16 bars of a musical theatre song, prepared and in the proper key; sheet music for the song, hole-punched and in a binder for the accompanist; and dates of rehearsal or performance conflicts. An audition packet is available at the Leisure Center and includes information about vocal coaching.
"Tarzan the Musical is a well-known and entertaining story with a wonderful score to accompany it," said Erin Sweet, Assistant Manager of Performing Arts with the Northbrook Park District. "We hope to continue with four casts, as we did last season. It is important for those auditioning to have availability for rehearsals one day during the week as well as on Sundays and to communicate all conflicts on their audition form. With such lively music, the performance requires a strong cast and large ensemble. We're looking forward to bringing this vibrant stage musical to life with the Northbrook Theatre Children's Company this fall."
The auditions are open to Northbrook residents and non-residents. Casting is based on ability, availability and attitude. There is no cost to audition. Students who are chosen for the cast will pay a $389 participation fee ($359 for Northbrook Park District residents) to help offset production costs. The fee includes a NTCC product package with a cast photograph, frame, DVD and cast party lunch on the performance date.
Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, September 16 and continue through performance dates in December.
