Alan Mann Tribute recipients:

Woodland Elementary District 50 has announced the recipients of this year's Alan Mann Tribute to Excellence in Education Award: Lydia Campbell (fourth grade, Intermediate); Katie Howell (first grade, Elementary East); and Carrie LaPorte (sixth grade, Middle School). They were chosen via nominations from students, parents, colleagues, and the community. Each received an engraved iPad and a $20 Apple Store gift card to buy applications for classroom use. The iPad, case and gift card are purchased through private donations to the Alan Mann Tribute to Excellence in Education Fund. Robert and Charlotte Mann, the parents of Alan Mann, are the main supporters of this fund. Alan Mann was a leader in Gurnee business, politics and community service, but he was known best for his dedication to District 50 children. Mann served on the school board from 1992 to 1997 and from 1999 until his death in 2001 at the age of 42. At the time of his death, Mann was serving as board president.
