Roadwork to Begin this Week Near Lake Forest Hospital

Roadwork is set to begin during the week of July 21 surrounding the Lake Forest Hospital campus. The roadway projects are being undertaken now, in advance of the hospital revitalization project, consistent with the Master Plan for the campus revitalization that was approved by the City of Lake Forest in 2012.

"We heard clearly from the City Council and the community that completing the road improvements at the front end of the campus revitalization project was important," said Thomas J. McAfee, president of Lake Forest Hospital. "These roadway projects will have positive long-term impacts for both the community and hospital."

Construction to improve the intersection of Deerpath and Westmoreland roads will begin this week and last until early October. Wider turn lanes are being created as well as a right-turn lane from westbound Deerpath onto Westmoreland to access the hospital campus. For much of the construction there will be single-lane traffic on a portion of Westmoreland and some lane shifting on Deerpath. For motorists who enter or exit campus via Deerpath, consider accessing or leaving the hospital campus from the north via one of the following alternate routes:

o Westmoreland Road where it intersects with Waukegan Road/Illinois Route 43 northwest of campus.

o The Westmoreland Road spur connection to southbound Skokie Highway/U.S. Route 41 northeast of campus.

Also beginning this week through mid-November, construction work will create an entrance and exit to the campus from Waukegan Road. The work is not expected to impact hospital campus staff or first responders, but may create some congestion for northbound motorists during peak hours.

In August, the pavement on Westmoreland Road will be resurfaced between Deerpath and just south of the southern entrance to campus. During the work, traffic will be reduced to one lane. Please considering using one of the alternate routes listed above.

All construction activities related to the revitalization project will generally occur Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. However, once school starts in late August, construction activities on Deerpath will occur between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. All work will be performed consistent with City of Lake Forest ordinances. The roadwork is scheduled to be completed this fall.
