Yahoo acquiring analytics company Flurry to boost mobile lineup

Yahoo! Inc. is adding to its mobile lineup with the acquisition of analytics company Flurry Inc.

Yahoo said today it is buying the San Francisco-based startup, which analyzes data from mobile-phone users to help developers better understand their audiences, because "mobile is at the center of everything we do." Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Yahoo Chief Executive Officer Marissa Mayer, who is in the midst of trying to turn around the Web portal, has stepped up acquisitions as she looks for new ways to jump start revenue growth. Last year, the Sunnyvale, California-based company spent about $1.1 billion on blogging platform Tumblr and has since made several smaller acquisitions, including mobile-homescreen company Aviate and video-distribution platform RayV. Yahoo has announced or completed at least 12 acquisitions this year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Flurry, led by CEO Simon Khalaf, has raised more than $60 million from backers including Union Square Ventures and Menlo Ventures. Its customers include Pinterest Inc. and Snapchat Inc. More than 170,000 developers use data from Flurry, Yahoo said in its statement.
