Paxton: If car can't be driven it may be junk

PAXTON - There may be a fine line between a potentially classic car that needs some work and a heap that needs to be hauled away. But in one Illinois town, the legal difference is now clear.

The City Council in the small town of Paxton in eastern Illinois this week amended a local ordinance to make clear that for a car to be considered an antique that can be kept on someone's property it must run.

Police Chief Bob Bane told The News-Gazette in Champaign the change will help local police as they try to force property owners to haul away clunkers that litter some lots.

Bane says he's now working on a spring survey of properties that the amended ordinance will apply to.
