Bowhunters to go after Asian carp

PEORIA, Ill. - When it comes to those pesky Asian carp, some folks along the Illinois River are saying: If you can't beat 'em, compete for 'em.

A tournament in the Peoria area this weekend will give people a chance to see who can catch the most. But leave the fishing pole at home. Competitors will try to skewer the jumping fish with arrows.

GateHouse Media reported that bowhunters from as far away as Tennessee have already signed up for the Flying Fish Bowhunting Tournament.

Asian carp are an invasive fish that have infested the Mississippi River and its tributaries.

If at least 100 boats enter the contest, the first place prize will be $2,500.

There will also be chefs on hand to prepare the carp in a number of ways.
