Saint James Holds Backyard Masses

Most Chicago residents are thankful for the great weather we've been having, especially after the brutally long winter. That's especially true for the parishioners at St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. They are holding "Backyard Masses" throughout the parish this summer.

Father Matt Foley, Fr Joji and Fr. Gilbert are scheduled to visit the homes of nearly 40 parishioners during June, July and August to celebrate mass. "It has been wonderful," said Foley. "The casual atmosphere and natural setting bring people together in a unique way."

Those hosting the masses, are encouraged to invite family, friends, co-workers and others. So far, the Backyard Masses have been a big hit. The inaugural mass drew about 95 people but it's expected that many of the masses will be smaller, cozy gatherings. The Backyard Masses are being celebrated on weekday nights through August 2014.
