Cougars stop Snappers in 10 innings

BELOIT, Wis. - The Kane County Cougars put in a little extra work, and the result was a 3-2 victory in 10 innings over the Wisconsin Snappers in Midwest League action at Pohlman Field on Friday.

The Cougars (6-2, 51-27) scored twice in the first inning as Yasiel Balaguert and Jacob Rogers had back-to-back singles, but the Snappers tied it on a 2-run homer by Jaycob Brugman in the bottom of the first.

In his second start with the Cougars, Pierce Johnson did not allow another hit after Brugman's homer, facing the minimum through the next 6 innings with 7 strikeouts as his defense turned 3 double plays.

In the top of the 10th, Jacob Hannemann led off with a single and Kyle Schwarber was intentionally walked. Shawon Dunston Jr. singled to drive home Hannemann with what proved to be the winning run.

Reliever Juan Paniagua (4-3) earned the victory with 3 shutout innings and 6 strikeouts.

The series continues today at 7 p.m. when the Cougars send Duane Underwood (1-2, 2.96 ERA) against Kyle Finnegan (6-4, 2.76).
