North Aurora man seriously injured in motorcycle collision

Two motorcycles crashed into each other in the village of Virgil Wednesday afternoon, seriously injuring a North Aurora man, police said.

The motorcycles were traveling side by side with one slightly ahead of the other heading west on Route 64 just after 5 p.m., according to a release by the Kane County sheriff's office.

The front motorcyclist attempted to turn into a business on the south side of Route 64, cutting in front of the second motorcyclist, police said. Neither driver was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the first motorcycle, Steve Wenger, 50, was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the second motorcycle, Timothy Corbitt, 55, of Elburn, was treated and released at the scene. He was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
