Man charged in heroin death
A 21-year-old Winthrop Harbor man is held in the heroin-induced death of Matthew Townsend in that community, Lake County sheriff's officials said in a news release Tuesday.
Reginald J. Jackola was arrested June 10 at a home in Beach Park, authorities said. On May 4, a warrant for drug-induced homicide and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver was issued for Jackola's arrest.
Police said Jackola was charged with delivering heroin to Townsend, who inhaled a portion of it and died. Jackola also was wanted on warrants for battery, unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $500,000, with a July 9 court date.
Also on June 10, a warrant for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance was issued for Townsend's sister, Laura R. Townsend, 18, of Zion, who was charged with delivering less than 1 gram of heroin to her brother, according to police. Bond was set at $100,000, and she was transferred to a treatment facility. Her court date is July 9.
