4 dead, 1 critical in Chicago single-vehicle crash

Chicago police say four people are dead and a fifth is critically injured after a speeding car struck a concrete wall and narrowly avoided causing a propane explosion.

Investigator Elliott Musial with the department's Major Accidents Unit says the crash happened around 3 a.m. Thursday on the Northwest Side. Musial says the BMW 328xi was speeding when it crashed and that it came within 5 feet of striking about 100 propane tanks stacked behind a store.

Police say three men and one woman died at the scene and another woman is in critical condition at a hospital. Musial says the victims were in their early 20s and that no one was wearing a seat belt.

Police say they will look at surveillance video to determine what happened before the crash.
