Construction ahead for 2 Chicago Red Line stations

Construction contracts have been awarded for work on two Chicago Transit Authority train stations on the busy Red Line on the city's North and South sides.

The transit board Wednesday awarded both contracts to Walsh/2-in-1 Joint Venture. The work will replace and expand existing stations at Wilson and at 95th/Dan Ryan. Construction is expected to start this fall.

The Wilson station project is worth $153.6 million and will make the station accessible to people with disabilities. The contract for initial foundation and retaining wall work for the 95th/Dan Ryan project is for $23.1 million.

Funding for the projects comes from federal, state and local money. The work is part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's Building a New Chicago program with support from the Illinois Jobs Now program.
