Bus with 37 and truck collide on Dan Ryan

CHICAGO — A bus carrying 38 special-need adults was involved in an accident with a semitrailer truck on Chicago's Dan Ryan Expressway, resulting in minor injuries and a miles-long backup of rush hour traffic.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says the bus passengers were being taken Tuesday to area hospitals as a precaution. The driver of the truck was trapped briefly, and refused treatment after being freed.

Authorities say a truck hauling paper in a dumpster lost the load, causing the semitrailer truck to swerve into the bus.

Video of the scene show huge amounts of paper scattered across five southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway (at 95th St.). Langford said once the bus passengers are taken from the scene, the Illinois Department of Transportation will clear away the debris.
