Oakton announces new scholarship at Elmhurst College

Oakton Community College is pleased to announce The School for Professional Studies/Oakton Community College Alumni Award. This scholarship, valued at $3,500 per term, is offered to one outstanding adult learner who graduates from Oakton Community College and transfers into an accelerated degree completion program at Elmhurst College.

"Recognizing the increasing need for community college graduates to continue their studies and earn a bachelor's degree, I thought this was a great way for two-year and four-year institutions to collaborate in the best interest of students," says Alumni Council member Tim Panfil '88, who initiated the scholarship at Elmhurst College, where he serves as director of enrollment management for the School of Professional Studies.

"Oakton is honored to have the opportunity to partner with Elmhurst College on this prestigious scholarship focused on nontraditional age students," said President Margaret B. Lee, Ph.D. "The college also is deeply grateful for the enormous support of alumni such as Tim Panfil, who show the extent to which former Oakton students can and do 'pay it forward.'"

Established in 1969, Oakton Community College offers more than 80 associate's degrees and certificate programs for students planning to move on to four-year colleges or universities, as well as those preparing for employment in a variety of careers. Accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the college is recognized by the Illinois Community College Board and is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges.

At its campuses in Des Plaines and Skokie, Oakton serves residents and businesses of Illinois Community College District 535, which incorporates Glenview and 16 other suburbs on Chicago's North Shore. The College also offers continuing education through its Alliance for Lifelong Learning and Emeritus Program, and a wealth of cultural and educational events open to the general public.

The School for Professional Studies at Elmhurst College is dedicated to providing high-quality education to working adults and those whose life commitments have precluded higher education. Whether you're pursuing a bachelor's degree, master's degree or certificate program, the School for Professional Studies will open the door to a wealth of opportunities and advance your career. To meet the needs of nontraditional students, programs are offered on-campus through evening courses or entirely online through the Elmhurst College Online Center.

Founded in 1871, Elmhurst College is a private, four-year college affiliated with the United Church of Christ. Curriculum combines liberal learning and professional preparation to equip students for lifelong learning, service and achievement.
