The Chicago Bandits will be a major sponsor of the 11th annual Fehlman Memorial Senior All-Star Game, which is scheduled for Monday, June 16 at Judson University in Elgin.
The event features some of the top senior softball players from high schools throughout the Fox Valley, and honors the memory of Dave Fehlman and his son, Robbie. Dave Fehlman was a longtime supporter of high school and youth softball in the Fox Valley area and a past president of the Fox Valley Renegades. He passed away in 2007. Dave's son, Robbie, was killed in a tragic auto accident in Colorado in 2012.
The event is also sponsored by the Northern Illinois Lightning and Kohl's and supported by the Daily Herald.
The Bandits' sponsorship of the event continues the professional team's desire to be more involved with high school softball. The Bandits have hosted several high school games this season, both at the Rosemont Dome and at Bandits Stadium in Rosemont.
"We're excited and pleased to support this event along with the Northern Illinois Lightning and the Daily Herald," said Bandits' General Manager Aaron Moore. "It's another avenue for us to get out there and be involved with and show our support for high school softball."
"We're excited to have the Bandits on board and we're hoping this is the beginning of a long relationship with them," said John Radtke, the Daily Herald's Fox Valley Sports Editor and the coordinator of the event. "The high school softball community has embraced the Bandits' willingness to hold high school games and events at the Bandits' great facilities in Rosemont and the Bandits becoming a sponsor of the Fehlman Memorial will do nothing but help boost the credibility of the event. This game has become a showcase for graduated seniors, a way for them to end their high school careers with a fun night of softball playing with and against many of their high school rivals.
"The event also honors the memory of two wonderful people, Dave and Robbie Fehlman, both of whom were taken from us way too soon. I couldn't be happier and more grateful to Aaron Moore and the Bandits for becoming a part of this special night."
