Man sentenced to 100 years in 2009 slaying

MARKHAM, Ill. - A suburban Chicago man has been sentenced to 100 years in prison for the 2009 attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend and the shooting death of another woman.

Cook County Judge Anna Demacopoulos sentenced 37-year-old Bartholomew Bishop of Chicago Heights during a hearing Thursday at the courthouse in Markham.

Bishop had been convicted in the death of 22-year-old Marilyn Horton and the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend. Cook County prosecutors say Bishop shot both women at the Chicago Heights apartment he'd once shared with his former girlfriend. He'd gone there armed with a gun, saying he wanted to pick up his belongings. The ex-girlfriend's 9-year-old son also was in the apartment, but was unharmed.

Prosecutors say Bishop fled after shooting the women, but was arrested by police later that year.
