Summer Events coming your way
There is a lot for families to do this summer in Deerfield Park District! Watch an outdoor movie in a park or at a pool. Campout with the family right here in town. Audition for a part in a Deerfield Family Theater production of Will Rogers Follies. Enjoy a free Disc Golf Tournament. And, for Adults: those 21 and up may sign up now for Moonlight Golf; and Adults 50+ are invited to attend "Shake, Rattle and Mix" -a fun 50's style event at Patty Turner Center. Two Dive-In Theater events are offered this summer. The first is a new event set for Saturday, June 28 at Deerspring Pool. Then, on Saturday, August 2, Dive In Theater returns to Mitchell Pool. Both events run from 7-10 p.m. and are geared for the families. The per person fee (pay at door) is $3, with children age 4 and under free. Participants are invited to bring a raft, inner tube or noodle and watch a movie on a 16-foot screen from the water! Swimming and floating begin at 7:00 PM. The movie will be shown at approx. 8:00 PM. The concession stand will be open. Sponsor for the August 2 event is Fresh Thyme Farmers Market.
The 9th Annual Family Campout at Maplewood Park is set for Friday, July 12 beginning at 5:00 p.m. through Sunday, July 13 at 8:30 a.m. Registration opens at 5:00 p.m. Movie in the Park will begin at dusk. Participants need to stop by and register at the pavilion to receive campout rules, sign form/waiver and receive campsite number. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. You may bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages. Activities and games will begin at approximately 6:00 PM. Sports equipment and grills will be available. All tents and belongings must be removed by 8:30 AM. Participants are invited to vote for the movie two weeks prior to the event at www.deerfieldparks.org. Sponsor for this event is Deerfield (Firestone) Tire Company.
PTC 3rd Annual "Shake, Rattle and Mix!" Mixer and Dance- #413226-03 takes place on Friday, July 25, 5:30 - 8:00 pm. Adults 50 years and up may twist the night away at "Shake, Rattle and Mix" 50's style mixer & dance featuring an assortment of Fab Fifties Fare and the classic sounds of "The Original Rockin' Fenderskirts!" "Put on your Blue Suede Shoes and let's Twist the Night Away! Cost is $20/PTC Member; $30/NonMember.
A free Disc Golf Tournamentis offered to everyone on Sunday, August 24, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The Deerfield Park District's Disc Golf Course is behind Shepard School, spanning Shepard and Keller Parks. Players will experience the excitement of disc golf Everyone's invited -novice through experienced players- to join in the 9-hole disc golf tournament, our "Plastic Classic" for players of all levels. Tournament includes longest drive and closest to the pin contests. If you don't have your own disc, we will have Frisbees available for you to use. Registration begins at 12:30PM at the first hole.
Auditions for parts in Deerfield Family Theater's November performances of Will Rogers Follies take place in September as follows: Adults & High School Students (open to everyone): Wednesday & Thursday September 3 and 4 at 6:30 pm. ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE SCHOOL (Auditions open only to those who reside within Deerfield Park District boundaries or attend school in Deerfield): Saturday, September 6: Grades 4-5 at 9:30 a.m.; Grades 6-8 at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 7: Callbacks. All auditions are at Jewett Park Community Center, 836 Jewett Park Drive, Deerfield. Provide sheet music and come prepared to sing 16 bars of your favorite song.
Moonlight Golf - for adults 21 yrs. & up is Friday, September 19. Registration is open at www.deerfieldparkfoundation.org for teams of us to six players. Players enjoy Glow-in-the-Dark Golf; Putting and Chipping Challenges and a great Dinner, walking the course, playing 5 holes under the moonlight. It's a fabulous evening filled with golf, food, beverages, raffles, prizes, a silent auction and more. Cost is only $400 per team of up to six players if paid by August 29. Event runs from 5:45 pm to approximately 10:30 pm at Deerfield Golf Club in Riverwoods.
