Aurora man sent to prison for sex assault

A 24-year-old Aurora man was sentenced Friday to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenager he was watching while her parents were away, prosecutors said.

Joshua T. Schlapp, of the 600 block of Garfield Avenue, agreed to the sentence in exchange for a guilty plea to criminal sexual assault, according to a news release from the Kane County state's attorney's office.

Prosecutors said between January and October 2012, Schlapp sexually assaulted the victim, who was younger than 17 at the time.

Authorities said Schlapp would act as guardian to the child while her parents were out of town.

Schlapp will receive credit for 554 days in the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $250,000 bond.
