Seeking favorite summer side dishes

Maybe last weekend's unseasonably cool temps had you back in casserole and chili mode, but summer will come, I promise, and I want you to be prepared with great recipes to showoff at your next cookout.

So I'm looking at you, dear readers, to share your tried-and-true summer side dishes with fellow cooking enthusiasts. I've already heard from some of you, but I know there are more great recipes out there. Mike, what about your pickled green bean salad? Karen, tell me about your newfangled slaw. Phil, do you plank-roast those Yukon golds?

Send me the recipe for your favorite summer side dish, tell me why it's your fave (100 word max, please) and I'll pick four recipes to share in the Food section later this summer. Email the recipe and story to food@dailyherald.com by May 28. Please put “Summer Side Dishes” in the subject line and include your name and town in the submission.

Those who send in recipes will be eligible to win cookbooks and other summer swag.
