Police identify 18-year-old killed in Aurora shooting

Aurora police continue to hunt for a gunman who shot and killed an 18-year-old man while the victim was sitting on a porch Wednesday evening on the city's near east side.

Joseph B. Trejo, of the 400 block of Bangs Street, was shot about 7:10 p.m. as he sat with his 31-year-old cousin on the front porch of a home in the 200 block of North Smith Street. The cousin also was shot and wounded.

Investigators said the two victims were approached by a 16- to 20-year-old Hispanic man, wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt and cream-colored khaki pants.

The gunman stepped out of a cream-colored, four-door sedan and fired several shots. He then ran south on Smith Street and west on Claim Street. The vehicle also sped south on Smith Street.

The two men were taken to separate Aurora hospitals. Trejo, who sustained several gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at 7:43 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday at the Kane County coroner's office.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police investigators at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and could qualify for a reward up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
