Aurora man convicted of sexually assaulting child

A Kane County jury has found a 30-year-old Aurora man guilty of sexually assaulting a young child he knew.

Brandon M. Niford, 30, of the 400 block of Plum Street, was convicted late Wednesday of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, according to a Kane County State's Attorney news release Thursday.

Prosecutors said between February 2007 and February 2010, Niford engaged in a sex act with a female victim, who was younger than 13 at the time.

Niford faces between six and 30 years in prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 30.

He has been held at the Kane County jail since his arrest in lieu of $1 million bail.
