Alex Gibson turned in a gem on the mound for Round Lake's baseball team Tuesday.

The junior pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 14, as the Panthers defeated visiting North Chicago 12-0 in North Suburban Lake Division action.

Round Lake (1-7 NSC Prairie) pounded out 13 hits.

Vernon Hills 8, Wauconda 3: The visiting Cougars came off the bus swinging, putting up 6 runs in the first inning en route to the North Suburban Prairie victory.

Pat Crowley earned the win, improving to 6-3 by going 5 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, while striking out seven.

Crowley started things off offensively by drawing a walk to start the game. Three pitches later, he was crossing home plate on Jordan Freibrun's double. Jake Boyer then drew a walk, and Connor McNamara (3-for-4, 2 runs) singled. Tommy Earhart singled in two runs, and Wauconda starter Ben Peterson was then chased from the game when John Goehrke (3-for-4, double, 4 RBI) lined a shot to left-center to score both McNamara and Earhart.

Goehrke scored the final run of the inning on an infield groundball off the bat of Joey Marras.

Vernon Hills (6-1 NSC Prairie) added to the lead in the second. Boyer reached on an infield error, stole second and scored on Goehrke's single.

In the bottom of the inning, the Bulldogs got on the board thanks to a bases-loaded double off the bat of Collin Shrader.

Vernon Hills' last run came in the fourth. NcNamara singled with on out and scored when Goehrke drilled a double to the right-center gap.

Shrader had the only extra-base hit for Wauconda (6-13, 4-3).

Grant 4, Lakes 2: A day after suffering their first loss in the North Suburban Prairie, the host Bulldogs responded.

Simeon Lucas doubled, walked and drove in 3 runs for Grant (16-4, 6-1), while Ryan Noda doubled, walked and knocked in a run. Andrew Stone picked up the win.

Justin Corona was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Lakes (11-8, 5-2). Brad Borzick (double, 2 runs) and Justin Blasinski were both 2-for-3.

Stevenson 9, Zion-Benton 1: Joe Olker threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball with 2 strikeouts and a walk, as the visiting Patriots won in North Suburban Lake action.

Mike Banakis led a 12-hit attack by going 3-for-5, while also scoring 3 runs for Stevenson (9-9, 3-4). Willie Bourbon tripled and drove in 3 runs for the Patriots, while LJ Austin and Jack Joseph each added a pair of hits. Sam Harris doubled.

Lake Zurich 6, Warren 2: Trevor Staley went 3-for-4, and Steven Vanstedum was 2-for-4 for the visiting Bears in the North Suburban Lake game.

Sam Zoibi earned the win, throwing all 7 innings, allowing only 1 earned run, allowing 2 hits, striking out two and walking two.

Colton Wagner had a single and 2 runs scored for Lake Zurich (13-8, 5-4).

Ben Dinter was the only player for Warren (4-5 NSC Lake) who had a hit. He was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Crystal Lake South 3, Grayslake Central 1: The visiting Rams had only 5 hits in seeing their six-game winning streak snapped.

Johnsburg 3, Grayslake North 1: Jason Petrillo had a double for the Knights in the Fox Valley Conference game.

The loss dropped Grayslake North to 10-13 and 5-6 in the FVC.
