Fred Savage returns for festival

Glencoe native Fred Savage, star of the “The Wonder Years” and “The Princess Bride,” returned to the area this week to headline the 10th annual CineYouth Festival. The director, producer and actor will participate in the fest, presented by Cinema/Chicago and the Chicago International Film Festival, from Thursday through Saturday at Columbia College Chicago's Film Row Theater, 1104 S. Aurora man pleads not guilty in strangulation death

An Aurora man police say beat and strangled his ex-girlfriend in March pleaded not guilty yesterday to five counts of murder. Police say Jose Loera Jr., 35, used Heather Jacobi's own scarf to strangle the 32-year-old mother of three who worked as a nurse at the DuPage County jail. Full story.

Three arrested in Elgin drug investigations

Three people have been charged with drug offenses after two separate investigations by Elgin drug detectives, police said. The suspects are Steven Lloyd Richardson, 47, of Westchester; Anthony S. Estrada, 39, of Pimbroke Pines, Fla.; and Deondra M. Malone, 33, of Chicago. Full story.

How Elmhurst Road diverging diamond will work

The diverging diamond redesign of Elmhurst Road and Jane Addams Tollway guided by traffic signals will be more efficient because of free-flow turns, engineers say. The project will be complete in 2016. It works by briefly shifting traffic into opposite lanes using signals on bridges or underpasses so that vehicles can turn left onto the tollway without facing oncoming cars. Then, traffic is routed back to the right side of the road. Full story.

Zion man sentenced to 40 years in Gurnee standoff

Kendrick Augillard, 36, of the 4200 block of Barberry Lane in Zion, was sentenced to 40 years in prison yesterday after an emotional hearing in front of Lake County Judge Mark Levitt. Augillard pleaded guilty in January to single counts of home invasion and aggravated cruelty to an animal. Full story.

Kane County control director suspended

Robert Sauceda, director of Kane County's animal control department, is on administrative leave pending an investigation. The nature of the allegations against Sauceda are being withheld for the duration of the investigation by the Kane County state's attorney's office and the county's human resources department. Semien comes through in 12th for Sox

Blackhawks' numbers extra crazy

The Chicago Blackhawks are putting up some crazy stats heading into Game 3 tonight at the Xcel Energy Center. For example, the Blackhawks have lost the first road game of a playoff series eight straight times dating to 2010. Full story.
