Quinn says he'll limit himself to 2 terms

Gov. Pat Quinn says term limits are good policy for Illinois and he's going to limit himself to two terms.

The Chicago Democrat told reporters Monday after a City Club of Chicago speech that he won't seek a third term if he wins in November against Republican Bruce Rauner.

Quinn has long advocated for term limits, including pushing a ballot initiative in the 1990s. However, when asked in recent months he wouldn't commit to two terms for himself.

Last week, Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno introduced legislation to amend the Illinois Constitution to limit statewide officials to two terms of four years. The plan needs a three-fifths vote in each legislative chamber to get on the November ballot.

Rauner is leading efforts to limit lawmakers' time in office.
