Company to pay cancer patient it wouldn't hire
A Chicago company will have to pay $80,000 to a man it refused to hire because he had prostate cancer.
In a news release, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says U.S. Magistrate Susan Cox signed the consent decree last week that will require Professional Freezing Services LLC to make the payment to William Harvel.
The consent decree resolves a lawsuit filed by the EEOC alleging that the company that provides logical services to the refrigerated and frozen food markets violated the Americans with Disability Act by refusing to hire Harvel.
A call was made to the company but an employee said the company's owner was not in the office and that no one else was authorized to comment.
