Poet Matt Rasmussen at ECC's Writers Center

Elgin Community College will welcome Matt Rasmussen to the Writers Center Reading Series on Thursday, April 24. The event begins at 7:30 p.m., in Building H, Room H142.

Rasmussen is the author of "Black Aperture," which was selected by Jane Hirshfield as the winner of the 2013 Walt Whitman Award and was also a finalist for the National Book Award. His poetry has been published or is forthcoming in The Literary Review, Gulf Coast, Water~Stone Review, Paper Darts, Poets.org and elsewhere.

He is the recipient of grants and residencies from the McKnight Foundation, Minnesota State Arts Board, Jerome Foundation, The Anderson Center, and The Corporation of Yaddo. A recipient of the 2014 Pushcart Prize, he also is a founder and editor of the independent poetry press Birds LLC. He lives in Robbinsdale, Minn.

All Writers Center readings are free and open to the public. A pre-reading dinner with Rasmussen will be held at 5:30 p.m. Books will be available for sale and signing.
