Hat trick plus one for Lake Zurich's Gelinas

Meaghan Gelinas did one goal better than a hat trick.

The senior midfielder scored all of her soccer team's goals, as Lake Zurich blanked Fenwick 4-0 in a PepsiCo Showdown match Thursday.

Jordan Jackson had 2 assists for the Bears (7-2), while Madeline Blasko and Nicole Rasiarmos also assisted on Gelinas tallies. Gelinas scored 3 goals in the second half.

Lake Zurich keeper Elly Daleske made 2 saves. She got help defensively from Maggie Tuckey, Julia Kuhn, Allison Heinrich, Devon Kennedy, Blair Coughenour, Katie McCurley and Meagan Bens.

Johnsburg 3, Grayslake North 2: The Skyhawks won the Fox Valley Conference match in a shootout.

"Our girls played a really good game, but struggled to find the final touch necessary to put Johnsburg away," coach Adam DeCaluwe said after his Knights fell to 4-5. "While we held the majority of possession and created the bulk of the chances, we simply couldn't find the game-winning goal."

Grayslake North scored a couple minutes into the game, when junior Teagan Johnson put a left-footed shot into the back of the net after receiving a pass from senior Chelsea Olson.

About 10 minutes later, Johnsburg tied the score.

"We showed good character and determination as we were able to get back to putting (Johnsburg) under good pressure," DeCaluwe said.

The Knights went up 2-1 when freshman Sydney Paez made a run down the wing before getting the ball to the middle to senior Lindsey Allen, who redirected the ball into the back of the goal.

Johnsburg poked home the tying goal following a corner kick, before the teams played two overtime periods.

Johnsburg prevailed 3-1 in penalty kicks.

Vernon Hills 3, Grayslake Central 0: The visiting Cougars got goals from Amy Andrea, Kaitlin Gramins and Rebecca Bahlmann to improve to 4-2-2.

Hersey 2, Libertyville 0: The Wildcats lost in a PepsiCo Showdown game, despite 7 saves from goalkeeper Krista Erlandson.

Libertyville fell to 2-4-1.

Evanston 2, Stevenson 1: The PepsiCo Showdown match was decided on a penalty kick in overtime.

Stevenson's Emma Jaeger scored in the 16th minute off an assist from Megan Petrick. Patriots keeper Maddie Boutros made 10 saves.

Grant 7, North Chicago 0: Leah Nehila scored 3 goals for the Bulldogs, who did all of their scoring in the first half of the North Suburban Prairie match.

Adriana Velarde scored twice, and Jenna Pecorini had a goal and an assist for Grant (4-4, 2-0). Danielle Frazer also had a goal, Nina Deligio contributed 2 assists, and Sophia Richards and Allison Kramer also set up goals.
