Cardinal tries to stay healthy during Holy Week

Chicago's archbishop says he's taking steps to protect his health during Holy Week while he continues cancer treatment.

Cardinal Francis George is undergoing chemotherapy.

While celebrating Palm Sunday Mass, he told worshippers he won't be able to greet parishioners at the door after the services as he normally does.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports he also didn't serve communion and remained seated while he delivered his homily.

George says he's been advised not to shake hands with "huge numbers of people this week."

The 77-year-old is the spiritual leader of Chicago's more than 2 million Roman Catholics.

George survived bladder cancer eight years ago and was diagnosed with urothelial cancer in 2012. He recently canceled this month's trip to Rome, saying he was worried about his weakened immune system.
