Police: Boy brought loaded gun to Aurora school
A 13-year-old boy who wanted to show off a gun to his friends brought the loaded weapon into an Aurora middle school Monday, police said.
Teachers at Washington Middle School, 231 Constitution Drive, became suspicious when they saw a group of boys milling around a locker at about 2:30 p.m., Aurora police said in a release.
Based on the suspicious behavior, teachers and an administrator searched the locker and found the gun inside a book bag, police said.
Police believe the boy, an eighth-grader from Aurora, took the gun from a relative and brought it to school to show it off. Nobody was injured.
The boy was taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center in St. Charles and will appear at a status hearing Tuesday morning. No additional charges are expected, police said.
