USA Basketball to play Brazil at United Center
If Derrick Rose doesn't make it back on the court for the playoffs, Bulls fans may get another chance to see him play at the United Center before next season.
USA Basketball announced an exhibition between Team USA and Brazil on Aug. 16 at the UC. The game is part of preparations for the FIBA World Cup, which begins Aug. 30 in Spain.
Rose is among 28 players on the Team USA roster. He's said he'd like to play in the World Cup this summer if he's healthy. Rose had surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee on Nov. 25.
If nothing else, the Chicago game will be a homecoming for Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski, a Chicago native, and Team USA assistant Tom Thibodeau.
Team USA will open training camp in Las Vegas from July 28-31, then take a break and resume training in Chicago on Aug. 14-15. After the game against Brazil, the team will move to New York and play two games at Madison Square Garden against Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, then will face Slovenia in the Canary Islands on Aug. 26.
Team USA will open pool play at the World Cup against Finland on Aug. 30 in Bilbao, Spain. The other pool opponents are Turkey, New Zealand, Dominican Republic and Ukraine.
Brazil's National Team for the 2012 Olympics included four players from the NBA: Leandro Barbosa, Anderson Varejao, Hilario Nene, and Tiago Splitter.
