Williams was arrested Monday. Elgin police investigating a theft of construction materials at a business on the 200 block of Willard Avenue spotted a vehicle that matched the description of an auto seen leaving the crime scene, authorities said in a news release.

Investigators later learned he was responsible for the theft and a burglary on the 800 block of Bode Road, police said. Unspecified gas-powered machines were stolen, police said.

Williams is scheduled to appear in Cook County court today.
