2 convicted of murder of Chicago 9-year-old

Two men have been convicted for the death of a 9-year-old girl who was shot as she bathed her dogs outside her Chicago home.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Chastity Turner was shot in the back in June 2009 as gunmen targeted her drug-dealing father and his cohorts.

Ronald Henderson and Kevin Stanley were convicted Wednesday on first-degree murder and attempted murder charges. A third man, 22-year-old Davionne Whitefield, is awaiting trial.

The girl's father and two others were wounded in the shooting.

In closing arguments, Assistant State's Attorney Joseph Lattanzio says 33-year-old Henderson and 31-year-old Stanley knew Chastity was near their targets but they "didn't care." He added the motive was the control of drug sales.

The jury's verdict came despite defense attorney efforts to discredit witnesses who testified.
