DuPage forest district offers summer camps for kids

The DuPage County Forest Preserve District is inviting parents to help their children get their daily dose of nature through a variety of summer camps.

All programs are day camps, and some include overnight campouts. To find detailed information and registration forms, visit dupageforest.org/kidscamps. Registration deadlines vary. These programs fill quickly, though, so plan your child's summer adventure soon!

"Camp FBW" at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook.

Kids ages 4-12 will learn about nature art, camping and ecosystems through projects and hands-on exploration in half-day camps that can be combined for full-day fun. Morning and afternoon sessions take place June 23-26 and July 7-10. For details, call (630) 850-8110. Each half-day session is $110 for DuPage County residents and $135 for nonresidents.

"Go! Camp" Environmental Science Merit Badge at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook.

Boy Scouts ages 11-17 will have fun exploring the environment while fulfilling requirements needed to advance to Eagle Scout. Camp meets Aug. 4-8 and includes an overnight campout. The session is $175 for DuPage County residents and $200 for nonresidents. For more information, call (630) 850-8110.

"Kline Creek Farmhands" at Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago. Kids ages 7-12 will experience life on an 1890s farm, including chores and games.

Seven sessions are available: June 9, 12 and 13; June 16, 19 and 20; June 23, 26 and 27; July 7, 10 and 11; July 14, 17 and 18; July 21, 24 and 25; and July 28 and 31 and Aug. 1. For more information, call (630) 876-5900. Each session is $100 for DuPage County residents and $125 for nonresidents.

"Horse Sense" at Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton. Kids ages 10-14 will enjoy hands-on experiences with horses and the daily activities of a working barn, plus arts, crafts, games and supervised lead-line rides.

Five sessions are available: June 2-6, June 16-20, July 7-11, July 21-25 and Aug. 4-8. For details, call (630) 668-6012. Each session is $203 for DuPage County residents and $232 for nonresidents.

"Riding Sense" at Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton. Kids ages 12-14 will enjoy all the fun of "Horse Sense," plus a daily one-hour riding program. Five sessions are available: June 9-13, June 23-27, July 14-18, July 28-Aug. 1 and Aug. 11-15. For details, call (630) 668-6012. Each session is $342 for DuPage County residents and $376 for nonresidents.

"Wild by Nature" at Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn. Kids ages 9-12 will discover the natural history of DuPage County through safe exploration and play in wild places. Two sessions are available: June 23-26 and July 28-31.

Each includes a day at Willowbrook, a day at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville and a campout at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Darien. For details, call (630) 942-6200. Each session is $100 for DuPage County residents and $125 for nonresidents.

"Wildlife Explorers" at Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn. Kids ages 6-8 will learn how they're part of nature through games, activities and stories. Each session will conclude with a cookout at Herrick Lake Forest Preserve in Wheaton.

Three sessions are available: June 16-19, July 14-17 and Aug. 4-7. For details, call (630) 942-6200. Each session is $100 for DuPage County residents and $125 for nonresidents.
