Award-winning season for Hersey DECA Business Club
The John Hersey High School DECA Business Club is having another award-winning season. The national qualifiers include Adam Johnson, Jack Marshall, Karthik Ravi, Michael Frankiewicz, Ben Goldberg, Joey Caputo, Adam Hauser, and state champions Halle Lyon and Elizabeth Niersbach.
Back in December, Hersey brought over 100 students to the regional competition at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont and came home with 74 medals in different economic and business events.
Fourteen students were crowned Regional Champions and 29 qualified for the state competition in Decatur last weekend. Nineteen of 29 business students finished in the top 10 in the state in their respective categories, and the nine students who qualified for the National competition.

Also, Cameron Murphy and Kellie Walsh, Buying & Merchandising Management, third in regional, top 10 in state; Megan McGrath and Carly Pisano, Financial Services Management, regional champions, top 10 in state; Chris Collins and Dean Simmons, Hospitality Services Management, third in regional, top 10 in state; Amanda Mix and Carolyn Niersbach, Hospitality Services Management, regional champions, top 10 in state; Michael Frankiewicz and Ben Goldberg, Marketing Communications Management, regional champions, third in state, national qualifiers.
In addition, Sam Harvey and Danny Nicholson, Marketing Communications Management, third in regional, state qualifiers; Joey Caputo and Adam Hauser, Sports & Entertainment Marketing, regional champions, fourth in state, national qualifiers; Sarah Jaffe and Paula Yang, Sports & Entertainment Marketing, second in regional, top 10 in state; Matt Lazarski and Kim Roman, Travel & Tourism Management, second in regional, state qualifiers; and Halle Lyon and Elizabeth Niersbach, Travel & Tourism Management, regional champions, state champions, national qualifiers.
The National Competition will be held in Atlanta, Ga., from May 3 through May 7.
