Naperville Humane Society plans fundraiser

The ninth annual Virtual Adopt-a-thon is about to begin at the Naperville Area Humane Society.

The key fundraiser has been revamped this year and asks participants to engage their contacts throughout the month of April in raising funds and awareness around shelter animals and programs.

"The Virtual Adopt-a-thon is one of the easiest and most fun ways to support our animals in need," said Ellie Stefanic, development director for the Naperville Area Humane Society.

"Participants are choosing one of our current shelter animals or programs to virtually adopt for the month of April. We've made participating easy this year by offering email templates and social media posts to help our participants engage their contacts."

All proceeds from the web-based fundraiser will help the group continue to provide excellent care for the animals at the shelter, she said.

The society hopes to raise at least $10,000 during the fundraiser.

More information can be found on the society's website. Registration opens March 23 and the event will run April 1-30.

The Naperville Area Humane Society is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1979 to develop and implement animal welfare programs and services in Naperville and the surrounding area. The group's goal is to protect animals and to prevent animal suffering.

While providing shelter and adoption for homeless animals, the society also strives to educate the community on compassion, respect, and kindness toward all living things.
