Mundelein shuts out Rolling Meadows

Michele Chernesky and Cristy Nambo each had a goal and an assist, and Ashley Nensel earned the shutout in goal, as Mundelein's girls soccer team opened its season with a 3-0 nonconference win over host Rolling Meadows on Tuesday.

Kaila Cancelli also scored for the Mustangs, who did all of their scoring in the second half. Jessica Schultz also had an assist. Coach Ernie Billittier credited Schultz and Megan Carroll for anchoring the defense.

Lake Zurich 3, Prospect 1: The host Bears started the season off well with a good defensive performance led by Maggie Tuckey, Blair Coughenour, Kaitlyn McCurley and Meagan Bens.

Lake Zurich's Claire Skowron scored off a Meaghan Gelinas corner kick in the first two minutes of the game. Molly Powers made it 2-0 with 14 seconds left in the half after the ball was crossed in by Skowron.

Prospect cut its deficit in half 10 minutes into the second half. But Lake Zurich got a goal from Katie Fabbrini off an assist from Carolyn Radecki with 12 minutes left.

Lake Zurich keeper Eleanor Daleske made 7 saves.

Carmel 1, Prairie Ridge 0: The host Corsairs opened their season with a shutout win, getting an unassisted goal from Kayla Handel in the 20th minute.
