Assurance has been a longtime proponent of corporate wellness programs, as it has empowered our employee base and provided them with both short and long-term benefits. Our faith in corporate wellness is what drove us to become the exclusive sponsor of the Daily Herald Fittest Loser competition. Through this competition, our goal is to show that wellness does not have to be expensive or time-consuming. Each week, we'll be sending a few, simple at-work exercises that you can do anytime and anywhere.

Tip of the Week

The Cubicle Shuffle

Most people who work at a computer don't usually have opportunity to change their body position during the day.

Try these at-your-desk stretches and strengthening moves:

• Shrug your shoulders up toward your ears. Hold for 3-5 seconds and then relax. Repeat 2-3 times. Also, slowly roll your shoulders backward 5 times in a circular motion. Then, roll them forward 5 times.

• While sitting in a chair, lift your arms over your head. Interlace your fingers. With elbows straight, press your arms as far back as you can. With arms still up and fingers interlaced, slowly stretch to your left side then to your right.

• Stand and put your hands on your desk (making sure it's sturdy enough). Walk backward, and then do 15 push-ups against the desk.
