Illinois Holocaust Museum announces new CEO

The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center has a new chief executive.

The museum announced Wednesday that Susan Abrams has been appointed to lead the center, located in the Chicago suburb of Skokie.

Abrams most recently was chief operating officer at the Jewish Community Center of Chicago. Before that she was vice president of the Chicago Children's Museum, where she was part of the planning for the museum's move to Navy Pier in 1995.

Holocaust Museum board of trustees Chairman J.B. Pritzker says that besides her experience leading nonprofits, Abrams has also demonstrated compassion for the survivors of the Holocaust.

In a statement, Abrams says she's honored to take on the role and help fulfill the museum's mission of honoring the legacy of the Holocaust while combatting hatred and prejudice.
