Time to stop rewarding failure

The Brainerd Community Center Inc. has failed to raise sufficient funds to renovate the Brainerd facility in Libertyville.

For the past seven years, the BCC has attempted to fundraise and seek donations for the renovation. They have failed and are now asking the tax payers of Libertyville to pay for their failure in the form of a property tax increase for the next ten years.

According to the BCC's website, as of December 31, 2013, they had a balance of $28,602, yet they are seeking $11.5 million from the taxpayers of Libertyville to fund their failure.

The BCC also failed to provide a real business plan to the Village Board of Libertyville as requested of them in December 2012. In addition, the BCC's projected amount necessary to complete the renovation started at $3 million, then a short time later became $6 million, and now the requested figure is $11.5 million.

Isn't it time to stop rewarding failure? For seven long years, the residents of Libertyville had the opportunity to support and fund the BCC's wish and didn't.

That speaks volumes and proves that Libertyville residents don't need or want another facility to be paid for by their tax dollars.

Vote no on the Brainerd referendum.
