Restore honor and dignity to office

Some local politicians and political insiders are supporting the political insider candidate for McHenry County Sheriff. There's nothing inherently wrong with garnering such support, and I personally have a great deal of respect for some of the people on that list.

But most of us who work in law enforcement support Bill Prim. That should tell you something.

I have no personal animus toward the current undersheriff, who seems to be a nice enough guy and a fairly competent manager. But one thing I've learned throughout the years is management skills and leadership abilities do not always go hand-in-hand. The sheriff's office desperately needs strong leadership right now and Commander Prim is exactly the right person to provide it.

Prim has a proven record of outstanding leadership and solid credibility as a "cop's cop" - someone who worked his way up through the ranks by being a good policeman, not by being a good politician. Elect another politician as sheriff and we'll get more of what we've seen over the last several years; elect a good police officer and a true leader as sheriff and we'll restore honor, dignity, and public trust in the McHenry County Sheriff's office.
